Little did I know eight years ago how much reflection would occur in just one week...Today was the first day of school and between that and our anniversary earlier this week I am finding my mind filled with memories of the past and wonderment of the future.
This morning we went about our routine as usual we ate breakfast, the kids played, Brad got ready for work and I tossed Violet's lunch of leftovers into her thermos and then into her backpack.
As our morning was business as usual I remembered this day, the very first day of preschool, last year. There was an early morning meeting for Brad, there was a screaming, tired and unhappy baby, an excited but nervous and somewhat uncooperative toddler, and there was a mama who was fretting over just what to pack for lunch.
It is amazing how so much can change in only a year!
Today, the morning was easy going, today I did not fret, today we were not late, today there was no yelling or crying...Violet was truly excited to see her friends and her teacher and she eagerly carried her backpack, by herself, into the classroom.
Henry was excited too! He loves Violet's classroom. He walked right in, surveyed the room, and tried to decide where he wanted to get started (he was not at all excited about having to leave...) As we were leaving one of Violet's friends from last year was arriving with his little brother. This year his little brother gets to stay, he is very excited. As I said hello to them, I remembered last year looking at these two little boys and seeing that it does get easier, but not allowing myself to believe it because it didn't seem possible...and now, here we are at the same place...a three and a half year old and a 15-month old...and low and behold...it does get easier!
I know I am not the only one reflecting on the past this week, this is what the first week of school is to a parent, this is what it is to be a parent, reflective with moments after moments of firsts.
Happy first days of school to everyone, hoping that the transition is happy and smooth. Enjoy the holiday weekend and check back here, I am hoping to post some tutorials that I have been working on that were inspired by a cousin's sixth birthday tomorrow!!
