Because of Violet's very observant eyes we learned all about a caterpillar today.
"Look Mommy, a baby caterpillar!" This after we had just been hopping after a giant grasshopper... It was a cool looking caterpillar. It was black with white stripes around it's center and had tiny orange dots all over it. She found it on our parsley plant.
So, of course we looked it up. What kind of caterpillar was it? What was is going to become? It's a...wait for it...a Parsley worm!! Hahaha, this truly did make me laugh out loud! Violet found this amusing too, but probably mostly just because I did. A parsley worm as it turns out is quite fascinating in that it has 5 instars and in each instar it looks completely different. The caterpillar as we saw it is in it's first instar so we shall keep a look out to see if we notice it as it changes. In the end it will be a black swallowtail butterfly, very cool!
So, thank you to Violet who helped me to learn something new today! Currently Violet has decided to "adopt" this little guy as her pet, she tried to build him a little house.
