Our dining room got a little bit of a face lift this weekend thanks to a very sneaky and thoughtful husband!
Ever since we moved into our home, a little over two years ago, we have been looking and searching for just the right thing to hang in our dining room. Up until this weekend we had two very nice paintings hanging, but they had begun to seem a bit too traditional and a bit too dark for our little dining room.
Our house is small. You can see this wall in our dining room even as you walk in the front door and it's the wall that I look out to every time I am in the kitchen cooking, etc...Something new has made it feel fresher.
So, with a new painting, Brad and I set out to plan a new dining room wall.
The pom poms needed to fill a bit of space between the plates...They had been living along the fireplace mantle since my birthday! I liked them there so I left them there. I must admit that I miss them a bit, but soon enough we will have something fallish around the mantle and I will get used to the felt balls in the dining room.
The plates are vintage plates that I bought long ago and we had been using up until I broke one :( So, they often sat, lonely, in the cabinet, a party of three, with only an occasional outing for cookies...They may be missed for those special treat days, but they are oh so cheery on the way here too!
And these little canvases sat blank on the wall for a full day, leaving Brad and I to think, think, think what to put on them. And then, at the same moment we had almost the exact same ideas. Mine, to press flowers in paint and then onto the canvas. Brad's, the exact opposite idea, to lay the plants on the canvas and spray over top of them. So we did both. Moments before company arrived I might add!
We love it! All of us.
It fits us, our home, and our family just perfectly. It brightens the house and makes us smile. But, just like the painting says, it's growing...
It's a work in progress. The canvases aren't perfect. But we can change them. We can add or take away from the wall to suit our "creative moods". There is plenty of room to grow! Perfect.
