We have been in full blown January clean out mode over here! Every room and closet in the house has been mercilessly sorted through and organized. There have been three trips to the donation center, three trips to Ikea, and one trip to the dump in the past week and a half. And, until last night, there had been zero sewing since Christmas day!
After all the time I spent at the sewing machine leading up to Christmas it was weird to take a break, but then again needed. Needed partly because my sewing desk had become a jumbled pile of stuff, but also because I needed a break. A rest. It felt good. The de-cluttering, while tiring and boring, felt good too! I feel lighter, cleaner and ready for the new year.
But, yes, I do admit that I was sewing on Christmas day. Is that bad? To be fair, it was during the kiddos rest/nap time. We weren't going anywhere and didn't have much to do. And, those Christmas pajamas that I so wanted to whip up in time for Christmas Eve got as far as being cut out but didn't make the deadline. But wait, Christmas night is still Christmas!
So, sew sew sew I did make those jammies. The kiddos didn't mind what day they wore them.
The shirts I made using some knit I scored nearly a year ago for $2/yard and used Rae's Flashback skinny tee pattern.
The pants were made using Aneela Hoey's Cherry Christmas, from Sewn Studio (thanks Rachael). I just drafted patterns from pants that the kiddos already had.
So they were a day "late". So there were no pictures of them opening Christmas gifts in their handmade pjs. Oh well.
We've got pictures of them playing with said gifts...
(She's taking us on a musical train ride, of course...to the rain forest...)
They did, however, get to wear them virtually all day long the day after Christmas. And, bonus, wear them under snow gear to play in the snow for a bit.
And, extra bonus, they got to wear them after the snow while drinking hot cocoa to warm up those red cheeks!
So, yup, there you have it...I took two weeks off from the sewing machine. I made some jammies on Christmas Day. My house feels organized (for now anyway). I still have a couple more pre-Christmas projects to share...
Oh, and, I finally turned my machine on last night to work on a custom onesie order, but I'll show those to you tomorrow...
Have a great day.
