Over the weekend we went to a dinner party with neighbors down the street. I volunteered to bring dessert as our contribution.
While I was trying to decide what to take, Violet asked "when can we make pudding?"...
So, we decided to take homemade chocolate pudding for our dessert because, who doesn't love chocolate pudding, right? But, to be honest, chocolate pudding seems a tiny bit "pedestrian", yummy, but just a bit simplistic for a party right?
And then, to make it portable and even more special...I made the pudding single serve, each in their own little mason jars. The mason jars were tucked into an old soda crate and the carried down the street... Once it was time for dessert, each was topped with strawberries and whipped cream...Who can resist (or would want to resist) this! Even the kitty had a hard time resisting... I tripled this pudding recipe and added a few ounces more chocolate than it called for. It took much longer to thicken up on the stove than the recipe said that it would, probably due to the fact that I tripled it! Also, it didn't set up quite as quickly as I had hoped it would, so it was a bit runny when we sat down to eat it.
I will say, that despite it's runniness, it got rave reviews from both kids and adults, partly due to the taste, partly due to the novelty of eating their dessert out of a jar! It was a fun dessert to make and super simple to transport. Not to mention that clean up was super easy too. We put the lids back on top, jars back in the crate and loaded them up in our dishwasher once we got home, which means no extra mess for the hosts!
The only problem is...they are all gone! No leftovers. I guess we will just have to make more.
