During all of the Christmas preparations, as I was checking things off my list: things to make, to buy, to wrap...you know, throughout the general Christmas craziness... (Which, funnily feels so far behind now.)
Violet said to me "I know you won't forget to make my present!"
Of course, being the good mom that I am, I pretended like I didn't know what she was talking about. "What, presents for you? Well, what do you suppose I am making you?"
Slippers is all she said. Her biggest hope was that I would make her a pair of slippers for Christmas. Well, goodness, what a sweet request!
I have looked and looked for a pattern for sewn slippers for a couple of years now. Buying slippers for some reason always seems to be so difficult. They rarely fit the right way, or they have an undesired character on them, or they are way too expensive. A couple of years ago I winged it and made a couple pairs of sweater slippers, which Violet and Henry loved but soon grew out of. So, while I was excited about making Violet her requested pair of slippers I wasn't quite sure where to start... And then I remembered that I had a few patterns to receive from the Peek-a-Boo pattern shop, thanks Color Your Summer and this fun shirt...so I searched around and found this pattern! Perfect! The kids opened their slippers up early Christmas morning and were oh so excited! Of course, I was toiling away and making them at nearly the very last minute and didn't get any pictures of them before they were given and then worn.
And worn. And worn! From the moment the slippers were opened they were put on and rarely came off throughout the entire winter break. They were even packed into suitcases for an overnight to the grandparents' house! So, of course, by the time I got around to taking pictures...this is what the bottoms looked like... Oops! Good thing they are a pretty quick and easy sew! The longest part is really cutting out all of the pieces, but they really did come together quite quickly. And, really, what's more satisfying than making something that gets lots and lots and lots of wear, right?!
I made matching jammie pants for each as well... I used Rae's Parsley Pants pattern, which is so fast and perfect for pajama pants! Of course, Henry has refused his new car pants, just as he continues to refuse his other flannel pants, it was wishful thinking I suppose. At least Violet loves hers.
There were matching pajamas too... Mostly just pants with a little penguin applique added to last year's Christmas pjs, because they still fit...call me lazy resourceful! Of course Henry really wants me to make him a pair of Fancy pants with the striped knit. I promised him I would, maybe by Valentine's day! But they were at least wearing matching shirts and enjoying most of their new mama mades on Christmas morning... And that's good enough for me!
