The first year in Elementary come also the first school picture. And with the first school picture, comes also a go to gift for the grandparents, right? The framed school picture that gets updated each year.
Of course, I found myself arriving home from several different places where I was supposed to have been looking for pictures frames only to have forgotten! I blame the holiday brain! Fortunately, my husband saved the day and arrived home one day with plain wooden frames and an idea...We were largely inspired by Amy's beautiful etched spoons and then Delia's amazing take on them as well!
Typically, my husband is the one who is wielding the wood burning tools around here, which he has used for several ornaments in the years past... But this year I wanted to see what it was all about!
First, we had Violet decorate the frames and add her name using a pencil... She is very proud of her stars of late (as she should be) so she stuck with those.
After she was finished decorating I etched over top... Then erased any leftover pencil marks...and we were done. Perfectly unique and handmade picture frames to use for the next twelve years...
Violet really enjoyed helping and loved the results too!
On the back I had a little fun playing around with one of the tools and marked a sweet little heart on the back of each frame... You know, just because!
I'm excited about this new etching thing! There's another project already waiting in the wings!
ps...if you remembered this post and my "mom confession", even after some tears she got a pretty great first school picture, right?!
