Henry has this thing with overalls...he always has really.
It started, likely, with a pair of train engineer overalls that he got as a gift when he was quite young and it just kept going.
These red, white and blue shortalls, though two years old are still getting regular wear. And, he begged and begged me for this pair of overalls and wore them over and over again. So, I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised when he requested a pair of overalls to wear for the first day of school. He's also quickly becoming intrigued by rompers, likely because of all of the rompers that Violet has been wearing recently...but that's another story...
Anywho, off I went in search of an overall pattern...then I saw the lovely "muslin" version Emi posted on Instagram of Celina's loveralls and I was sold and so was Henry! The pattern itself is still in the works (testing coming soon, check in on the Petit a Petit Pattern Facebook group for more on that...) but lucky for me she had the size 6 pattern (Henry's size) and agreed to let me try it sans tutorial!
Oh man, you guys are going to love this pattern! Henry picked out some woven houndstooth that I had in my stash from Imagine Gnats and, in hindsight, perhaps it wasn't the best choice for the project as it doesn't have any stretch which means that the ankles are a tad on the snug side, but for the fit elsewhere it doesn't seem to matter much...and really, it's just the price we pay for style, right?
I can't wait to sew another pair of these for Henry...and a pair for Violet for that matter as well!
Sewing without a tutorial did stretch my brain and test my abilities, but since I'd already sewn a pair of morocco shorts for Henry's birthday (also from Petit a Petit and Family) I used that pattern as a guide.
I will say that the snaps...the snaps caused the most amount of stress, but mostly because I was afraid I'd mess up everything I had already worked so hard on!
I truly can not get over how cute these overalls are from every angle!
The entire ensemble suits him just right!
He really couldn't have been happier or squealed with more delight over these overalls and this first day of school ensemble!
He's already looking forward to another pair!
