One thing that is perpetually on every holiday wish list...World Peace. I think I've figured out a way to make that happen. Or, at least imagine that it happened. Turn off the radio and the television and just tune in to Christmas music! Ha ha! I am only partly kidding. We began playing Christmas music several days ago and since then I have missed many NPR news updates (yes, I do realize that this is not necessarily a good thing...) which makes everything just seem more peaceful!
So, give it a whirl! And, just in case you are feeling a bit bored of the usual grocery store holiday classics, here is a play list of Christmas music that Brad and I put together last year
De Mornin' Come -- Notre Dame Glee Club & Daniel Stowe
Trepak -- Modern Mandolin Quartet
Go tell It on the Mountain -- Silver Belles
I Saw Three Ships -- Sufjan Stevens
Snowed in with You -- Over the Rhine
Baby it's Cold Outside -- Leon Redbone & Zooey Deschanel
Must Be Santa -- Bob Dylan
Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance -- Sufjan Stevens
Someday at Christmas -- Jack Johnson
In the Bleak Midwinter --Pierce Pettis
Away in a Manger -- Mindy Smith
Lullay, Lullay -- Barbara Higbie
Still, Still, Still -- Bach Choir & the Choristers of Winchester
Gloucestershire Wassail -- Notre Dame Glee Club & Daniel Stowe
Carol of the Bells -- Tromobone - L.A.
Good Chrisitan Men Rejoice -- John Fahey
Snow Angels -- Over the Rhine
No Chirstimas for Me -- Zee Avi
Silent Night -- Zach Gill
Christmas Bells-- John Gorka
I Wonder as I Wander -- Robert Shaw Chorale
On Christmas Night all Christians Sing -- Ralph Rousseau
Every year Brad and I spend much of the month of December trying to put together an original feeling and sounding play list of Christmas music and then make CDs for our families. We have a lot of fun doing it, it is one of those things that we do well together, making "mix tapes" and cover art too! Last year's cd was really fantastic! So, go ahead check out one, or more, or all of the songs turn them up loud and enjoy World Peace (or enjoy pretending there is Peace on Earth).
And, whatever you do, do not listen to the saddest Christmas song ever, "The Cat Carol"! Seriously! This song is saddest thing ever. I have found myself completely enjoying some jolly Christmas music and then suddenly this song creeps in. No matter what I am in the middle of I find myself with tears streaming down my face! Once I was covered in flour and up to my eyeballs in Christmas cookies and had to stop just to let it all out...maybe it was good, I suppose, cathartic, but still...don't listen!
Peace and Joy!
