You may remember from my sewing 2011 roundup post that I talked about not having goals per say, and that I first planned to finish some of my 2011 projects...
Well, yay for me, the first week of January finally brought the completion of these pants.
I started these pants back in October when I made the first pair but just ran out of time to finish two pair. So, there they sat in a draw, all of the pieces cut out
but never actually getting sewn together until last week.
They are another pair of the Treasure Pocket pants from Sewing for Boys. I really do love these pants. They definitely came together more quickly than the last pair, but part of that was probably due to the fact that I had them already cut out. As I was making this pair though I quickly realized why I decided to put these on hold and go for the other ones first...the recycled jeans denim I used for this pair is a bit much more worn in than the other denim. Oh well, like I said all of the pieces were already cut, and I really wanted to get this little project crossed off my list. So I forged ahead and added a star patch to one knee knowing that it was going to wear more quickly than the other.
The extra room that these little Treasure pocket pants have is really perfect for all things toddler...running
and oh so much more!
Not to mention that the insets of the side allow for some fantastic fabric additions...aren't these little pups adorable!? (*Moda Sherbet Pips puppy dog tails)
They are apparently also good for soup spilling which is what happened all over these pants...so no close up sans kiddo this time...
Unbelievably (or believably since it was all the way back in October...) I already had to let out the waste a bit in the first pair of Treasure Pocket pants I made...but it was easy peasy, just a little seam ripping. I made this pair a bit longer this time around, but didn't let the cuff out on the other ones yet. I opted to make both pairs without the hem facing inside. While it is nice to see it inside, I don't particularly find that toddlers and cuffed pants go together very well, so I just decided I would let the hem out as needed...
Of course, as I was making these pants for Henry, Violet was keeping a close eye on me and wondering when I would make something for her. I asked her if she would be interested in a pair of pants or instead a skirt or dress. She decided on a dress or skirt, no surprise really...we are going through that always wear a skirt or dress phase...but, after she saw Henry enjoying himself in these pants and hearing some of the compliments that he received she changed her mind. Who wouldn't want a pair of comfy pants, right?! So, I talked her into a pair using some of Sarah Jane's Children at Play fabric that is orange with bikes on them...this way some day Henry can wear them too...and I won't feel too bad when she opts out of the pants for a skirt!
So, there you have it...my first thing made this year!!! YAY! So far I'm on track to make something new every week this year, ha ha ha!! Anyway, maybe that is my goal...or a challenge anyway...check this out, maybe you will make it your goal too!!
