Hi there!! If you are stopping by via Pinterest or from another link, thanks so much for coming! And, while you're at it, take a look around...there's lots of fun stuff to see!
One of the fun little projects I did for Violet's fancy birthday party was making bow ties. What could be fancier...or cuter as it turns out!
(Here's Henry in his, albeit a bit disheveled!)
As I was planning for the bow ties I came across two tutorials for bow ties that I liked, this one from Deila Creates and this one from A Lemon Squeezy Home. In the end I decided on Delia's because I liked the look of the bow better and I figured I was up for the challenge of bow tying! Speaking of bow tying...she tied up all of hers using a little stuffed monkey. Clever. I did the same.
Doesn't she look so happy to have her bow tie on?!!
Delia gave several different ways to finish the bow tie off using elastic, swim suit hooks or simply sewing the two sides together. Seeing that my bow ties were going to be worn by 4 year olds and younger, I decided to finish mine off using velcro instead. That seemed a safer bet.
This one might be my favorite, it's hard to say though they are all so cute.
Admittedly, I still have a bit of work to do on bow tying, but I kind of like the disheveled look, on kiddos at least. Once you get your template made this tutorial is quite simple to follow, not many steps, which is another reason why I used this one. I liked that it was straight forward and didn't have a ton of little tiny steps to follow.
A note on fabric choices...I used a few different types of fabric. For some I used light weight cotton which makes a flimsier tie, a summery tie, if you will. I also used some heavier weight, thicker cotton and these are the bow ties that were easier to tie and made a stiffer more formal looking tie.
Of course, after making all of these bow ties I came across this at Target...
I guess it's because Easter will be here before you know it. Hmmm, wonder if I could get Brad and Henry to wear matching bow ties for Easter. Seems unlikely... ;)
