Hi there!! If you are stopping by via Pinterest or from another link, thanks so much for coming! And, while you're at it, take a look around...there's lots of fun stuff to see!
One of the gifts I made over the holidays was this little bird necklace for one of my sisters...
I love how it turned out. Simple and beautiful.
After making my lovebird appliques I thought it might be fun to make a felt lovebird necklace for myself.
First use the Lovebird template to cut out two birds from two different colors of felt.
Knot a piece of embroidery floss and pull it through between the two birds pieces so that the knot is hidden inside the birds.
Next, using a straight stitch, sew the birds together. Take care to leave a slightly larger opening at the tail and the beak so that there is enough room to feed the necklace through. Tie your thread off at the end.
After both birds are sewn together tie a small piece of thread around the circle part of your chain and thread the other end through an embroidery needle.
Push the needle through eye first (if you push it through point first it will keep getting stuck on the felt) from the tail to the beak of the first bird.
Continue threading the chain through the second bird from beak to tail. Gently pull the chain all the way through and you are done!
A simple and pretty little necklace to give or to make for yourself for Valentine's day (or any other). I thought about perhaps adding a little heart in between but I like the simplicity, although it's easy enough to go back and forth, heart, no heart.
And, oh, the little birds...as I was stitching them up I was thinking...pins, barrettes... many sweet ideas!
