Hi there!! If you are stopping by via Pinterest or from another link, thanks so much for coming! And, while you're at it, take a look around...there's lots of fun stuff to see!
Rollie pies...yum! What, you haven't heard of them?
As a child these were something that I always looked forward to. If there was a pie being made by my mom, my grandmother, my aunt...there was a chance for some rollie pies. Okay, maybe there was a bit of begging for them on my part too.
Rollie pies are just the little bits of the pie dough leftover after putting the crust into the pan, add a little cinnamon sugar roll them up and pop them in the oven.
Well, honestly, it's been years since I have made my own pie crust and therefore, rollie pies as well...But last night for our day filled with hearts we made some heart rollie pies (with refrigerated pie dough).
Roll out the pie dough onto a floured surface. Brush the crust with a bit of melted butter and then sprinkle a mixture (to your taste) of cinnamon sugar all over the dough. Next roll the dough up to make hearts. We did this two different ways. First, cut the dough into strips about a half an inch wide and then rolled them up one at a time. Roll from one end and then the other until they meet in the middle.
This way takes longer, but little hands have more fun this way. We also rolled the whole circle of dough up all at once from one end and then the other until they meet in the middle,
then slice the dough into half inch pieces.
Place the rollie pies onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. As you place each rollie pie down pinch the non rolled part a bit to make a point.
Bake for 8-12 min. at 400 deg. until lightly browned.
If you like the thick edge part of pie crust...you will like these...eat alone, with some tea...or pop them into a bowl of ice cream to make pie a la mode without the pie!!
Oh and ps...be sure to come back here tomorrow...I can't tell you now...it's a "covert" operation...
