KCWC: favorites and she wears the croquet dress...

Good news!!! Violet gladly wore and enjoyed and played and loved her new dress!!! 

Unfortunately...she was not quite in the mood for posing...oh well...

And, because of the drop waist it feels like the dress is a bit shorter than we are used to...but no worries...because that's what those bloomers are for :)

I love this croquet dress...it's another one of those things that I want for myself...in fact, at the end of the week, I think that Brad wants everything I made for Henry in his size, and I want everything I made for Violet in my size! Ha Ha!

Oh, and yes, I did finally get my house cleaned ;) Ah...all but the one little room that still has fabric remnants strewn all over it...but I just closed the door on that and enjoyed an afternoon BBQ with friends yesterday ;)

KCWC: Day seven...Croquet Dress...

So, today is the final day of KCWC!  I'm tired, but so happy with all the things that came out of this week.  This is the first time I've actually participated...in the fall I  made a shirt and some pants, but they were sort of just incidental...I was already making them...but this go around I had a plan...and I amazingly checked everything off my list!! YAY!

The last thing on my list was one of those things that I definitely didn't need to make, but I HAD to for myself!  Once I saw the new Oliver + S Croquet dress I fell in love with it and bought it.  It's my first ever Oliver + S pattern, there are so many that I love but I just have never purchased them.  

When I showed Violet the picture she liked it but said: "I don't need anymore dresses..."  Indeed, she doesn't thanks to many great hand me downs...but, I had this idea in my head that I could not shake...So, despite my better judgement ;) yesterday a croquet dress was made...

The dress is made out of linen that I was fortunate enough to have been gifted...croquet dress and linen, perfect!

The applique, I couldn't resist...This was what started the whole vision in the first place...

And for some added playfulness, Sarah Jane Children at play hopscotch on the inside... Now, we just need to get a croquet set ;)

Unfortunately no pictures of Violet in the dress yet...I think she has grown tired of all of the trying on and picture taking and it is too early in the morning for that "nonsense", perhaps I will get some pictures later...

And now, remember when I said that I was going to clean on Friday...well, I got as far as buying a new steam mop to replace my old broken one.  So, while there were definitely no children neglected during KCWC, in fact they were by my side playing for a lot of the making, the house definitely was neglected...So, today, is for sure a cleaning day...and then a bit of relaxing...

KCWC: Day six...shorts...

Hi there!!  If you are stopping by via Pinterest or from another link, thanks so much for coming!  And, while you're at it, take a look around...there's lots of fun stuff to see! 

Day six...and we have some shorts...

First up...shorts for Violet...she's not a big shorts fan...mostly because she doesn't like them too short and too tight...skirts are way more comfy as far as she's concerned.  I totally agree with her on that one!  But, when I was going through some of the old clothes in my fabric stash and suggested I make her a skirt out of this old skirt of mine

She said, "No, shorts!"...alright then...good idea...some nice, loose and long shorts...

I loved this skirt...Unfortunately it got splattered by a paint brush while we were painting when we first moved in...I want to say that that is the only reason it was in the salvage pile...but, it was also there because it was from my teeny tiny days which are a long way behind me now :(  Anywho, it was a lovely linen skirt from J.Crew...

I used a pair of shorts that I knew fit Violet to figure out the inseam, etc.  And then I used this paper bag pants tutorial as a sort of guide to finish off the top of the shorts.  Success! 

I love the way they turned out...

And, she does too.  Perfect for running, jumping, playing...

And, another pair of shorts for Henry...well, surprise surprise...Treasure Pocket...SHORTS!!!  I know I know I really need to branch out!  But, seriously, if you could see how much this boy loves to find those Treasure Pockets...you would understand!  It's adorable to watch him walk around with his hands pockets all crouched over :)  

I really wanted to make these shorts quintessentially summery...therefore...seersucker!!

(Oh, and elephants...)   

It was a bit strange making these shorts because the fabric was so lightweight and it's been so cool...but then I remembered how HOT it gets!!  

Anyway...he loves them!  Of course :)

One more project to go...I have to be honest...I worked most of the afternoon today...so, that project is done all but a button...I need tomorrow off....Phew!  It's been a long week! ;)

KCWC: Day five...it hasn't all been sewing...

It's the home stretch!! I have to say...I do a lot of sewing most weeks, but this one seems more hectic than usual, I'm not sure why, perhaps it's the lofty goals I set aside for myself...

It hasn't been all sewing this week though...

Oh, and these wise words...

A breath of fresh air! It is JUST what I needed!

And, after yesterday's hike in the woods with Henry wearing his cardinal shirt, I found out that Violet's favorite bird is a robin.  I had no idea, oops.  And so, as it always goes...Violet wanted a shirt like Henry's bird shirt...

So, in secret...I took a white shirt from her drawers...which already actually had a stain on it anyway... It's light but you can see it here...

And, ta da, my hour of sewing for the day...

It's pretty crazy to think that one applique can take that long...but...it does sometimes...

She loves it!

Now, maybe I should do some cleaning around here... ;)

KCWC: Day four, Big to little cargo shorts...

So, it seems that I have a bit of a theme going on here this week...reuse/repurpose.  I guess I'm still feeling Earth Dayish after my week of earth friendly projects last week...

Anywho, today, was a bit of snip, snip, sew, sew of the boy variety...

I started with these shorts

They might not have been worn since shortly after this trip

This was taken on our trip to Alaska where we ran our first marathon...Hmmm, that was two years before Violet was born...I'm not sure why Brad was still hanging on to them.  Oh wait, I can't blame HIM...I have been hoarding too small/too big clothes to use again for a long time ;)

So, these shorts were in great condition, just too small...I thought the pockets were awesome!! And, how much Henry would love to have a load of pockets at his disposal!  So, a little snip, snip, sew, sew...

I, again, loosely used the Treasure Pocket Pants pattern from Sewing for Boys, mostly just for sizing, and the waistband, because I love that waistband so much, it's so simple and comfy for a little one!   (In case you are interested there is a whole category on my side bar for these pants now since I feel like I've made them so many times...) 

These shorts are awesome!  In my humble opinion ;)  

And there's that waistband! They are a bit long which was necessary to keep the pockets in tact, but the length makes them even better for hiking and climbing!

And, yes, he did fall in shortly after this...See...

Anyway, some perfect hiking shorts...Goodness...how is it that he is almost two?!!!
