Admittedly, Violet and Henry looked quite "old-fashioned" in their Easter clothes. A bit "Little House on the Prairie" some might say. Violet, especially with her bonnet...
(some about the Easter dress here)
Here is the thing about bonnets though...I have a long history with them. A long long time ago, it was me always wearing a bonnet.
I will admit that I was wearing them past my comfort level and there was a little bit of teasing, but there are many pictures of me as a little girl wearing bonnets, and they are all cute :)
One, day, as I as going through some of my old baby clothes when Violet was a baby I found one of my old bonnets. I tried it on her and, being that she always has been a hat girl, she liked it immediately and wanted to wear it all the time. I loved that she liked it, of course, but it was a bit too small. So, I went to the maker, my mom, and asked her if she could make a new one just for Violet.
And a year later it was still a hit!
And, even today, Violet is still putting it on her much larger noggin!
This picture was taken on Saturday, the day before Easter. Violet insisted that she wanted to wear her bonnet out on our adventures for the day, even if it was a too small. So, just when i thought I was going to have the day off from sewing, I felt compelled to make her an Easter bonnet too...
Just two days before I saw this post from Rae at Made by Rae about her adorable peekaboo bonnet and bought the pattern because of it. I had intended on making this a down the road project, or perhaps a KCWC project, but instead it was a squeeze it in for an Easter basket surprise project!
It was a super quick project. Yay for those! And, I kid you not, there was an actual "GASP" and a loud "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" as she saw it and immediately put it on! Well, that melts a mama's heart doesn't it!
And, lest you think that it is just an Easter bonnet saved for Sunday finery (and to show the lovely dandelion reversible side...)
It's perfect for play time too! Yippee, for a bit of old-fashioned style!
