Okay, so I guess I probably should have tried to post about the dress before Easter...but, I was lucky enough to get it finished before Easter ;)
Ever since I saw Kristin's (Skirt as Top) Sweet Tartan dress as her Junebug remix for Project Run and Play I fell in LOVE with it!! It is so sweet and special and simple and little girl perfect! Well, to be fair, so is the original Junebug dress!
And then, Kristin made a tutorial for her Sweet Tartan dress! Sweet! :) And I knew I wanted to try it for Easter. And, to make it all seem even more perfect, Denyse Schmidt's Flea Market Fancy reprint came out just in time! All the cards aligned...
The patterns and tutorials, both the original and the remix, were great, they were easy to follow and all fairly straight forward and easy, yay, thanks for your vision and hard work Jess and Kristin!
But, I have to be honest with you...the making of my dress did not turn out very straight forward. The patterns are both written for a 2T/3T size, and while Jess and Kristin do give excellent tips on how to draft a different sized pattern, I decided just to wing it and simply just made all of the pattern pieces a little bit bigger. Not such a big deal, except for that, perhaps, I should have paid a little bit more attention to the finished dimensions of the dress and remembered that my four year old V is quite petite. The end result was a dress that was way too big.
So, I made some changes. And then, it was too tight. So, I made some more changes. And it was just right. But, not without a few headaches here and there and a little girl who was tired of trying on said dress over and over again and did not, for the life of her, want to stand still!
Since I made the dress too big, I decided to not use the back flap and instead just made it a keyhole opening. But, even still it was a bit too big so I added a couple of little pintucks to pull the bodice in a little further. Not perfect, but pretty.
Unfortunately, with all of the warm days we have been having, of course Easter was cool! So, I didn't actually get many pictures of Violet in the dress as she was usually wearing her sweater over top of it.
In the end, though, it was perfect! Pretty, not too pink, Springy, comfy (comfortable enough to toss on some sneaks after pictures and church and take to the basketball courts with her cousins!) and little girl perfect! Oh, and, there is still some room to grow, which, after all the time put into it, is awesome!
More on the rest of the outfits later...off to amuse some kids now and to the store ;) Have a great day!
