Hi there!! If you are stopping by via Pinterest or from another link, thanks so much for coming! And, while you're at it, take a look around...there's lots of fun stuff to see!
Wow, I just realized that Mother's Day is next weekend!! No worries...Just enough time to get done a sweet little craft...It's one of those ideas that I have been wanting to do for a long time now...I thought it would get done at Christmas time but I ran out of time...Embroidering a drawing.
What mom doesn't love a beautiful little tea towel, okay, well, I'm sure there are some...but the moms that we are making for, love them! So, specifically, embroidering a drawing for a tea towel. I used a piece of blue linen that I just got on sale at Ikea. This linen turned out to be perfect for this project (although I bought it with something else in mind) because it is narrow and the long ends are already hemmed, so I just had to cut to size and then add some bias tape to the unfinished edges and a little loop! But, you can easily do this with a plain store bought towel as well...
First, to start, a drawing...I'm not the best at that part...so I called in reinforcements, Violet, to draw me a picture.
The scribbles are Henry's contribution and sorry, they did not make it to the towel...Once I had my picture I traced it very lightly onto my fabric.
(Yes, that is totally an embroidery hoop I stole from this wall...oops, I needed to borrow it!)
Once the picture was transferred to the fabric...I stitched...Fun, fun to watch the picture turn into something else. Even more fun, watching Violet's face as she watched me stitch it! She was so excited to see her picture take on a different form...And, so, she and I stitched away with our embroidery hoops this afternoon (she has a project in the works too, but she's not quite ready to share hers yet...).
It's as simple as that! A beautiful, thoughtful, unique, handmade gift for mom! (Ps. yes, I did leave out the sun from the original picture, it has been requested by the artist to put it in...first, I need to get some yellow embroidery floss...)
And, the bonus...it doesn't take too long to make...you've got one weekend left, come on you can do it! :)
