Alright, so this post is basically about me making myself a pair of summer pajamas, and some experimenting. It's not very glamorous, I must admit...
While it is true that I sew a lot, it is not very common that I am sewing things for myself. Especially not things for myself to wear. But, I am diving in a bit here and there and, so far have been happy with the outcome.
So, with this month of Shorts on the Line going on I thought that I might make myself a pair of pajama shorts now that the kiddo's shorts are done.
Last week I pulled out some nice to feel and touch fabric that was handed down to me. I'm not sure what type of fabric it is exactly, but it has a voile feel to it. While it is a perfect fabric for summer pjs, it is also a bit old fashioned looking
Eh, oh well, it was free and in my stash...
To continue...I wanted to make some pj shorts...
I had intended on making these adorable mini bloomers, which I pinned ages ago, like back in January, but as it turned out, I wasn't really in the mood to read directions. So, instead I simply whipped up a pair of boxer-like pj shorts using a pair of shorts as a guide. Simple enough and comfy. I was satisfied.
Until.
I saw all of the mini bloomers that Amber, of Rowan & Oak was making over in the Flickr group and I thought, well, now I really have to make those!!
It is true, all of the reviews that I have been reading about these bloomers. They are super cute!! They are super comfy! They are super easy! And, they are super low cut! I love them, although, I do feel a little bit weird about walking around with the ribbons on them. I think I might, perhaps, use some cotton gauze the next time around like Amber did and use elastic in the leg instead of the ribbon. Also, I think, to minimize the "poof" factor I might go down a size.
So, not such a big deal, two pairs of shorts made from the same "old lady" vintagey fabric, easy peasy.
So, why not make a shirt to go with the shorts and make it a set?
Here is where the experimenting really came in. I have never made myself a shirt before. I used a loose t-shirt to draft a "pattern". I used some fold over elastic that I got at a recent trip to the fabric for the neck and arms. I bought cream, lavender and black at the time thinking about this skirt and knowing I wanted to use it for something, sometime. Of course, at the time of making my shirt the cream and lavender seemed to have walked off somewhere! Leaving only the black, oh well.
It's comfy too! The fold over elastic is so much fun to use, I've definitely got to find my other colors or buy more. I do wish I had cut the neckline a bit deeper, I wasn't accounting for the fact that the elastic was going to pull it up so high (next time).
Oh, and one more new thing I tried...a double eyed needle! Yeah, I know it's pretty basic, but it was my first time trying it. I didn't really need to use it here, but, I figured why not while I was trying new things, go for it.
So there you have it. A post in which I discussed bloomers, pjs, vintagey old lady fabric, double eyed needles, fold over elastic and showed you my new summery, comfy pjs hanging on the line...
Don't say I didn't warn you, a little bit boring!
Anywho, today is the last day to get your shorts on the line, er, in the Flickr group. So, if you already have, yay for you! If you haven't, no worries, go check it out and be inspired!
