So, have you heard all the craze about the raccoon?!
No? Then you must stop by Imagine Gnats to see what it's all about! It's the latest thing, the new forrest friend fad! And, thanks to Rachael I'm hopping on the bandwagon sooner rather than later!
Today I'm guest posting at Imagine Gnats and sharing this eye mask. It'll help you catch a few zzzs and look cute (and a bit silly) at the same time. Head on over to check it out. But, what if you've already been robbed of your sleep?! (Or you have a terrible headache.) Rid yourself of puffy eyes with a raccoon eye pillow...
Supplies needed: Fabric Scraps, light weight fusible interfacing (I used Pellon SF101), Heat N Bond, rice and lavender to fill the pillow.
To begin you will also need a larger template for the eye pillow. I made a new version of the template for the eye pillow based off of Rachael's original.
Once you have printed the new template, begin cutting your fabric scraps out for each individual piece. I backed each of my pieces with Heat N Bond (following the manufacturer's instructions) for ease of sewing. When cutting out the back of your eye pillow and base for the front of the eye pillow, cut them out using the template, but make each about a 1/4" larger than the template to allow for the seam allowance.
Place the pieces of your face onto the front of your pillow, be sure to leave 1/4" all the way around. When you are happy with their placement, iron to affix. Next iron on fusible interfacing to the back of the front and back of your eye pillow. Once you have everything in place, sew around all of the edges on your raccoon face.
Now, pin right sides of the front and back together and sew around the edge with 1/4" seam allowance. Leave about 2" open on the side for turning. I found it easiest to sew with the front facing upward so that I could see the stitches from the front and use them as a guide.
Trim edges and turn right side out, fill with rice and dried lavender (not too much or it won't lay on your eyes well).
Stitch up your opening with a ladder stitch and you are done! A little lavender filled raccoon eye pillow.
Now enjoy and rid puffy eyes (or boo boos even) goodbye!
Or just play with it because that's fun too...
Wouldn't these two be a great little gift?
Make them to give to a sleep deprived new parent, perhaps?
Or, maybe just make them for yourself!
