Selfish Sewing Roundup and moving toward KCW...

Wow, what a fun week of sewing it was! 

Thanks so much to Rachael and Jill for putting together a super "selfish" week of sewing!While I wasn't quite as prolific sewing for myself (I blame lack of planning) as I often am sewing for the kids during KCW, I am pretty happy with my new pillow, scarf, bag, dress, and jammies!

It's nice to have some new things for myself.  In fact so much new that on our way out the door for our date night the other night I realized that everything I had on, dress, scarf, and clutch I had made for myself...Is that weird?  The kids go out of the house often wearing all mama mades, but is it weird for mama to head out of the house wearing all mama mades?  Hmmm...my husband assures me that it's awesome, so I guess it's not weird.

Anywho...you've got to head over to the flickr group and get inspired...there are so so many great things in there to get you pumped for even more selfish sewing!  Here are just a few of my favorites... A beautiful hoodie, a colorful esme top, a blue dandelion top, a stack of fat quarter napkins, a closet filled with new tops, and rainbow edge napkins...

As I usually am...I was drawn to the beautiful colors in all of these "selfish" projects.  What can I say I am a sucker for a "rainbow" of color.  Lovely.

And, now, as Selfish Sewing week is over it's time to start prepping for KCW!  Wow!  It'll be here before you know it.  I have no idea what I will be making for the kids this fall, but I am thinking about potentially making them some winter coats, which might be the only things they get.  We shall see.

Selfish Sewing, Pj pants...

Wow, what a week of sewing it's been!  I'm not sure I necessarily planned to sew everyday day or that I expected to actually get so much done, but you know there's something to be said about that whole sewing community pulling you along thing...just like KCW, Selfish Sewing week and all of the amazing projects in the flickr group lit a fire in me and I was off...busting out all of those projects that I had been putting on the back burner...

Pajama pants weren't on my list, but then I saw Melissa's three pair that she whipped up...and then the next thing I knew "Weekend Sewing" was on it's way in the mail to me and the Leah Duncan Tule fabric I had planned to use for my Laural was being used for a pair of jammie pants for me!  HA! 

This fabric is great and oh so comfy for jammies. I think the jammies themselves feel a little excessively large, but they are comfy so, that's really all that matters, right?  And what better way to end a week of selfish sewing than with a pair of pjs...

After a late night last night, a kid kicking me in my sleep all night, a super early drive this morning and baseball and soccer practice already under our belts...I think I'm ready to curl up in my jammies again for a little coffee and reading... Sounds like a nice way to spend a Sunday doesn't it? 

HA, who am I kidding, I've got cleaning and laundry to do...

Selfish Sewing, Date Night Tova Dress...

No, not toga dress...tova! Alrighty, I've got to be quick...just finished up my date night tova.  I'm so excited about it.  I lined the placket as I did the last time.  And added a bit of piping for color... And a contrast at the sleeve... We are heading out for an overnight visit with my husband's sister's family...which is why this needs to be quick...

But while we are there, Brad and I are heading out to a concert.  Yay!  Date night and cousin visits!  We are seeing Josh Ritter, the last time we saw him I was six months pregnant with Violet in NYC and I felt so "hip" being at a "standing room only" show and pregnant!  We tried to see him again a few years ago on Valentine's day, but with a not sleeping baby Henry at the time, it was just not in the cards...So, anywho...we are excited!

It seems that everytime I make myself a dress Brad gets a date night out of the deal, not bad.

Apparently ironing boards make good cat beds...No, he didn't break it, that's from another time when someone else thought that ironing boards make good surfboards!

Selfish Sewing, 241 tote...

Another day, another selfish sewing project... A 241 tote just for me!  I am oh so totally in love with this bag!  It has so many things that I love in it...green corduroy (leftover from Violet's skirt), liberty (from this dress that I love oh so much!), essex (of course!), more fabric from over seas, blues and greens (inside Amy Butler Chinese Lanterns) and a little bit of handprinted goodness for a pocket inside (from the handprinted fabric swap, thanks to Susie Oh, and, just because I've been in an orange mood this week it seems between the scarf and the pillow I thought I'd add in a little orange embroidery here... just on one side, just because... I like it.

Yes, indeed, another selfish sewing project that makes me happy, just because.  This bag is simply perfect for me.  It's the kind of bag that is going to get me to go run errands just because I want to carry it to the store!  Ahhh, yup, it feels good.

After spending much of my day yesterday making and pressing appliques for 32 shirts in the midst of a cold or allergies (not sure which yet) I wasn't exactly looking forward to cutting out fabric and pattern pieces.  But, I knew that if I got the pieces cut out before heading to bed last night that this beauty would come together quickly.  And it did! 

Which means that I'd get to use it today! 

So, who needs me to run to the store for them?
