Today we have Jennifer, from Classic Play to conclude our "thankfuls" posts. Jennifer is one amazing, super smart, and strong woman (and blogger!) I am so thankful to have here to share with us today. There are so many lovely things happening over on Classic Play and Spoonful (where she is a contributor), including these yummy looking pancakes and this apple tart. I must make both soon, because a) I love pumpkin and b) I still have a ton of apples leftover from our apple picking trip! I love this tiny pocket star. And we had tons of fun at our block party thanks to her pumpkin patch pop. Aside from being crafty she and her husband, Dave, have been making some pretty amazing "Adventures in Learning" videos for PBS Parents, this one is one of my favorites, but really they are all well worth watching!
Here are the things that Jennifer is thankful for today...
Years ago, I was working with a family whose son had Autism. I was helping them through a lengthy IEP process with their public school. We all sat in a hot classroom with linoleum tiled and institutional beige tiled walls while the administrator talked, the teachers talked and I talked about the fate of a boy who could not talk. During all of this talk, the boy's father leaned over to him and said, "Thank you for being my son."
In that moment, time stopped. I knew what type of parent I wanted to be. I wanted to be the parent who told her kids she was thankful for them. And ever since that moment, all those years ago, I have tried (sometimes successfully and sometimes not) to tell the people closest to me know how thankful I am to have them in my life.
So today in keeping with that sentiment, I'd like to publicly say I'm thankful for these guys…
They laugh at my corny jokes, dance with me and let me sing at the top of my lungs without rolling their eyes (most of the time). They allow me to be my truest self.
And I'm thankful for you, Jane. Thank you for offering me this space to share what means so much to me. And thank you for your support as a friend and as a fellow creative.
Thank you so much for joining us Jennifer and for sharing your story with us (it got me all teary!). What a small thing it is to say "Thank you", but what a BIG payoff!
Be sure to stop by Classic Play for much more from Jennifer and her team...
