Hosh Pants, with a tail, KCW Winter Day 5...

So, if you've been reading here before, or catching up on IG, or just know us...Henry does not enjoy wearing pants.  I mean he does cover his legs, but it's quite the challenge to get him to wear actual pants, more often than not he pulls leggings out of his drawers to wear and when there aren't any clean...it becomes an issue...

I've wondered if it's the comfort of leggings or if it's the slimness of the leggings...

I really want to try the Small Fry Skinny Jeans pattern but the idea of making another pair of pants with pockets and extras that never get worn doesn't seem quite appealing.  (I'll try those for Violet sometime...) 

I had thought about making a pair of Hosh pants but didn't really have any of the right fabric on hand...and then I saw this on IG , hosh pants with "not a smitch of stretch" fabric.  Henry had already picked out some corduroy from a skirt in my "to upcycle" pile, deeming it perfect for a pair of "lion pants". 

I thought I'd give it a try. They came out pretty nicely.

At first, he was unsure and said that they "are a little tight, but I like them!"  They are a little tight, but only really around the ankles when getting them off and on.  I made a size 4T, instead of the 3T that he should typically wear.  And, instead of making the waste band as it was supposed to be made, I upcylcled the original waste band from the skirt from which the corduroy came...The back is a little extra baggy, but he doesn't seem to mind.
It turns out that maybe it is the silhouette, maybe he's just a "Rock Star".

Now he has a pair of pants, actual pants! 

(I should say that he does have a few other pairs of corduroys that he wears, but they are all too short nowadays...) 

But of course, you didn't think I got away with making "lion pants" without a tail did you?!

Nope!  I tried, but he wasn't having it.  So they are sort of normal pants...

Come on what's the fun in having a mama who sews your clothes if you can't personalize them, right?

Plaid Flip Vest, KCW Winter Day 4...

I've had Dana's Flip Vest  pattern on my "to make" list since last February when it first came out and I just now finally a) bought it and b) made it...

Originally I had planned to make this for Henry seeing that he's been wearing his other vest about once a week recently and I wanted to give him a warmer option...but, I was a bit uncertain if he would actually wear it so I thought I'd let Violet be my "guinea pig".(Ahem, please excuse yet another picture of foxes on the blog this week, she actually did wear it to school today and there was no desire to change after school for the "photo shoot"...At least I know that they like their new clothes, right!)

One side of the vest is made from a flannel remnant from Joann (I seem to be a bit plaid flannel obsessed this year, see exhibit a & b, oops!)

And the other side is more of the home dec brushed flannel (or something) in a lighter grey that I got on clearance at Joann (I've used it before here and here)... After making it, at first, I was concerned that it might be a little too old ladyish...but that's before Violet put it on and added her own little funky style to it!  She loves it, it's warm and snugly...perfect for tossing on to give you a little extra warmth when you don't quite need a sweater...perfect for dresses...or "loungewear" too...

And the fact that it's reversible...

And has a button... Is always a bonus (except of course to the buttonhole maker...I still have extreme anxiety when it comes to buttonholes!). 

Side note:  Don't you love watching little kids button buttons?!

Anywho, that wraps up day four for me...

I'm so glad she likes loves it!

Oh, and by the way, in case you were curious, no Henry is not interested in one of his own.  I let him try Violet's on and showed him his fabric.  I'm not sure he really knows what he's talking about, but for now, I think I'll hold off!

Sweatshirt Fancy Pants, KCW Winter Day 3...

Alright, so, maybe I'm getting into this KCW thing...

Or maybe I just took advantage of a two hour delay this morning and kiddos happily playing together long enough for me to grab my hour of sewing...

Today brings two pairs of Fancy Pants leggings.  I am no stranger to Fancy Pants!  I've made 1,2,3,4 and 5,6,7 and 8 and 9,10  and 11 (and 12 & 13 that were't blogged)!  While I do love them so very much, and they do come together oh so quickly and are just adorable on those little legs, I'm not necessarily the reason for all of the Fancy Pants...I "blame" Henry!

This kid seriously does not want to wear anything but leggings!  It's a source of many an argument when it comes to clothes wearing around here.  So, I suppose I ought to just give him what he wants, right?

These are made out of an XL sweatshirt that I bought on clearance.  If he insists on wearing leggings, I wanted to make them a little bit warmer than just straight knit. 

As he and I were hunting through the clearance section I held up sweatshirt after sweatshirt asking him if he wanted a pair of leggings made out it...no, no, no...the woman shopping near us must have thought I was nutty!  Clearly Henry doesn't have my "vision"!  I bought one anyway to give it a try.  As soon as he saw them he told me "I am going to wear these today, because I think that they look very handsome!"  So maybe I'll head back to buy some more sweatshirts!  Of course, after I made Henry his pair Violet decided that she wanted a pair too...

I really had to finagle the fabric to get another pair cut, which gave me a) a headache and b) a couple of weird seams

Also, I wish I had gone up a size for each because this sweatshirt material doesn't stretch quite as much as I had anticipated...live and learn.

Also, the sweatshirt had a kangaroo pocket in it which gave a funny little pocket at the bottom of one leg...

I actually think it looks pretty cool...

And I'm sure he'll find something to put in it... PS...Henry, all on his own put on his Bond Top today!  YAY, so far I am doing much better than last KCW with clothes that Henry will wear!

PPS...my guest room/office/sewing room still looks like this!  ACK!

Wild Raglan Tees, KCW Winter Day 2...

Okay, some things:  I'm having difficulty finding my KCW sewing mojo...Two raglan tees is all I've got today...
I might be breaking some sort of blogger rule by posting the same fabric two days in a row...
the wall in our dining room is the only place that we have any reasonable light in our house in the winter...
the kids love taking pictures on these stools, I might use them all the time now...
the stools make them crazy silly...
and a little bit weird...
taking pictures in the dining room makes me realize that we need to paint it, seriously, I've had to digitally erase out several scuffs on the wall!

Now that I've got that all out in the open...

Two raglan tees from the Sewing for Boys book.  They are both size 4/5.  I knew that the 4/5 was a little bit too big for Henry, but totally acceptable, because of his "Holy Smokes" shirt (which he now loves!).  I also knew that the 4/5 was the perfect fit for Violet and I was afraid that she would swim in the next size up.  So, basically they are interchangeable, although neither child wants to share... The deer for Violet because after seeing Henry's Bimaa (which he has never worn, Boo!)  she requested something made out of the deer fabric (from Girl Charlee). 
And the foxes for Henry because after seeing Violet's "foxy dress" he wanted foxes of his own!  (don't ask about the hair, static!) Let me just say, that while I might not have my full KCW mojo and that I may have only finished two raglans...I am so very happy I did!  These shirts are fantastic, these kids are adorable in them (yes, I know I am biased!) and they love them oh so very much...
(seriously not an ounce of bribing to get Henry in this shirt!) In the end happy campers is all that matters, right?!
