Tomorrow is Valentine's Day! And today was a snow day here...so, when we came in from the cold and wet of the snow, naturally we started crafting.
I prepared the Valentine's Day craft for Violet's class party, while Violet worked on her Valentines for her classmates. Of course, as it turns out, it was mute because school is already cancelled for tomorrow too, but hey, we will be well prepared next week!
My craft task...make something for the kids to use to collect and gather their Valentines...
I wanted to have them make something fun, but also wanted it to be a fairly quick craft, as they don't have a lot of time, plus...I'm sure they will all be eager to exchange their Valentines. So I did a lot of the prep work...
- Cut out large hearts (I made one side white and the other colored)
- Punch holes about 1" apart most of the way around.
- Punch a hole in the center dip of the heart as well.
- Sandwich length of ribbon between the front and back of the heart and staple to make a handle.
I did this x19... Next I tied and knotted a long piece of plastic lanyard through one of the top holes and strung it through a plastic needle...
The needle part isn't necessary, the plastic is strong enough to feed through on it's own, but I found these plastic needles, a pack of 18 for about $2 and I thought it'd be fun...
Next, the kids get to "sew up" their bags and then decorate them with stickers and markers...
The hole at the top is to tie a little ribbon after it's all filled up with Valentines...
To keep it closed on the way home...
And while I was prepping 19 heart pockets...Violet was carefully crafting her Valentines...
It was fun to watch her spell each of her classmate's names on the envelopes. To listen to her talking about her classmates and about what kinds of things each of them likes or dislikes. They aren't "fancy" Valentines, but they are filled with love and the handwritten words of a proud Kindergartner!
