A few months ago Laura (of Craftstorming and Titchy Threads) approached me and several other fabulous bloggers with a super fun series idea...
The gist? How the heck does Celina do it? She makes the most amazing things, right? Her style and styling is spot on! And, she is a pro at tutorials with graphics and video! Seriously, how does she do it?
So, anyway..."Sure!" I told Laura, "I'm in!" So fun!
And then I kind of panicked, especially after this post...How can I hang with that?
Well, I did the best I could...
I think my favorite things about the clothes that Celina makes is that she upcycles a ton of stuff, and that she is totally not afraid to mix and match patterns and colors! I love the cool "hodge podge" look...and so do my kids!
To start, inspired by this totally awesome ensemble that Henry put together on his own a few weeks ago...a tie... I used Celina's color block tie tutorial and pattern that she did for The Sewing Rabbit. I was fairly certain that Henry was going to think it was awesome because he would, of course, "look very handsome" in it...so I made it neutral with essex linen in black and Fairy Tales words...
I mean this kid talks so much...it seemed only appropriate...it's almost like the words just fell out of his mouth and onto his tie!
He really does love it...he totally thought he was handsome! Some might say dapper...others, hipster-like...whatever it is...he's got style!
(the rest of the outfit: pants- sweatshirt fancy pants, shirt- H&M, hat- Huck Finn cap, vest - Easter vest)
Next, for Violet...I was completely inspired by the outfit that Celina made for her daughter for the Alphabet collection by Pattern Anthology.
I loved the way Celina mixed up her florals and stripes in the raglan and did the same for Violet's...
The pattern is the same raglan I've been using recently here and here from the Sewing for Boys book. The main floral is from Jo-Ann, and the stripes and neck band floral (same as this knit) are both from Girl Charlee.
I am so in love with the mix of tomboy and girly girl in this shirt, I'm really thinking about making one of my own!
I also made Violet a pair of jeans inspired by the ones that Celina made...I loved the extra large back pockets on her version and wanted to do the same for Violet's. I was using an old pair of jeans from my husband, a pair that no longer fit him, but were still in excellent shape. I picked off the back pockets, sized them down just a bit and added my own buzzmills tag in place of the red Levi's one... I even managed to use the original yoke and large Levi's tag as well! I used Laura's Small Fry Skinny Jeans pattern for the jeans and love them, but most importantly...Violet loves them! She has a pair of jeans now, for the first time in...forever, she actually has a pair of jeans and she could not be happier! In the past she has never been comfortable in any of the jeans that she tries on in stores and so we always skip them...but these, she loves! It might be because they are Daddy's old jeans, or because they are mama made, whatever the reason...she loves them!
So, there you have it...my take on what Celina, might do...
These "cool kids" are loving the Celina inspirations...
Thanks for the fun series Laura and thanks for all of the amazing inspiration Celina! Remember all of those other fabulous bloggers I talked about earlier...well, you've got to go see what Celina inspired things they whipped up!
