Last week was filled with piles and piles here and there and everywhere...Spring cleaning! Somehow Christmas chaos quickly tumbled into February birthday chaos and then much of March was a blur...and before I knew it there was lots and lots of clutter!
And so, before I could fully appreciate the entrance of Spring I needed to clean and organize!
And then, only then, was it time to bring out the Easter decorations! And, once I did put them up the kids began to cheer for Easter! Oh kids and holidays they are always happy to have a "reason to celebrate" no matter what it is right? Of course, they wanted to play with my ceramic bunnies which I wasn't too thrilled by, you know the whole fragile thing...so, I thought I'd test my polymer clay crafting skills once again and make some "ceramics" just for them... Each started with a simple ball or oval and then had little extras added...
The sheep started as a simple ball and then I added swirly "snakes" all around and a tiny black oval for the face...
The seated bunnies started as ovals. I used a bone folder to carve out the ears and added little dots of pink and black for the nose and eyes, and a little white ball for the tail...
For the standing bunnies...ovals too, but standing up. I pinched a bit of the clay up on each side to form the ears. Again they each got a bit of black and pink clay for eyes and nose (I added these with the tip of a toothpick) and a little tail, the tail is my favorite! Oh and carrots, I had to make the bunnies carrots too!
And last, but not least, the little chickies...and a duck...
Violet and Henry are so pleased to have their own Easter decorations to play with...
In fact, that's what they are doing right now...sometimes it's sorting, sometimes it's putting them all in a line and sometimes it's dramatic story telling events heard throughout the house!
These weren't super fast, mostly because it took me a while to get the details the way I wanted them. Also Henry was by my side helping... But, to see and hear them play makes me happy, so...worth it.
And, now my fragile bunnies are ought to be safe from harm.
Of course, they also have this rather large basket of Easter animals from years past (chicks, more chicks, eggs, and bunnies... But really, bringing these little things out around the holidays makes them so happy, it's something new to play with to imagine with and to tell stories with...
Plus these kids really like "decorations" that they can play with! Henry was so desperate for his own Christmas decorations that he asked Santa for some of his own...so, yeah I knew that these little guys would be welcomed and loved in our house.
I think they'd be super sweet tucked inside Easter baskets too, you know a little something other than candy.
I like those little non-candy options... Bunny ears, washi tape eggs, felted bird nest headband, mini bunnies, mini chicks, bunny egg cozies, felt flowers, felt daffodils, painted paper mache eggs, felted egg
Have a great weekend!
