Introducing, the Sew Fab Pattern Sale for Spring 2014!
The Sew Fab Pattern Sale consist of 19 patterns, for $29.95, and is only available THIS week (May 5-13)!
As part of the blog pattern tour for the sale I had the chance to sew up "The Big Tote Bag" from Things for Boys.
And, I could not love it more!
As soon as I saw the this bag pattern it shouted "POOL BAG" to me! And, with swim lessons just starting back up and summer visits to the pool fast approaching I was excited make one for myself.
Henry and I made a trip to the fabric store together to buy some oilcloth and, after initially steering him away from his original "plain jane" choice of red oilcloth, he picked out this super cheery and summery strawberry patch fabric! It's perfect!
For the inside of the bag I used a summery striped home dec weight fabric that I had leftover from when I made some outdoor cushions for inside our teepee...
I used midweight fusible interfacing on the striped fabric (as the pattern suggests) because, even with the heft of the oilcloth I wanted to add a little extra to be sure that the bag stood up and held it's shape.
The pattern (which is only one piece!) comes together so very quickly, especially if you omit pockets as I did, but there are also instructions for adding both a slip pocket and a centre divider zippered pocket as well.
And it is big!
Not too big, but big enough to fit several beach towels inside of it as well as some other pool necessities...
Of course, it'd be great for many other uses other than trips to the pool: diaper bag, library bag, grocery bag, knitting bag...
But, this one with it's waterproof oilcloth exterior is just perfect for pool... (Oh, it's also great for toting gifts in the rain...been there!)
Since I opted out on the pocket, and had a bit of oilcloth leftover, I thought I'd whip up a little zipper pouch...
Perfect for a change of clothes and then later, post swim, for wet swimsuits...
Plus, who doesn't love a mini matching zipper pouch, especially when it's made out of strawberry fabric!
I'm so looking forward to using my sweet summery bag, it's one of those things that just makes me happy when I get to use it! Corny?
