As I mentioned the other day, we had our annual pumpkin painting party this past weekend (you can see past years here and here, plus party throwing tips here). We were so lucky and were blessed with a perfectly warm fall day! The sun was shining, the leaves were falling, and our tiny backyard was filled with so much creative energy!
Everywhere you turned someone was doing something from painting to bean bag throwing to candy cone knocking down to running to creating with homemade pumpkin pie play dough!
The yard was filled with screams and shouts and giggles! It was such an amazing day filled with so many wonderful friends! And, thank goodness the weather was so lovely, because there were over 50 people here! That's a lot for our tiny yard, but surely A LOT for our teeny house!
I didn't hold back with the pumpkin theme for the food, there was squash soup, butternut squash lasagna, chili with butternut squash in it (my fave way to prepare it!).
There were loads of pumpkin filled treats as well, many thanks to Trader Joes, and I did not hide that fact and simply used their box labels as my own (handy tip!). I also made my traditional pumpkin pretzels, but this year filled the pumpkin pretzels with these new pumpkin pie spice chips (from Nestle), so, so good! I used the melted pumpkin pie spice chips for my little acorns as well. There were candy corn jello/pudding cups (lemon pudding, orange jello, vanilla pudding) and of course some little jack o'clementines, everyone got such a kick out of them last year!
We played pop the balloon again this year, but I couldn't find orange balloons...not surprisingly the kids didn't really care!
Oh, and we did apple bobbing this year too! The other parents all seemed okay with the whole "swapping germs" thing so we forged ahead...and it was so much fun to watch and the kids got a huge kick out of it!
It really was a fantastic day filled with fun, friends and creativity! I was exhausted afterward, but that's a sign of a good party right!
Happy almost Halloween! I've still got a few finishing touches to work on for costumes and some classroom party projects too! I'd better hurry!
