Well this is a real "hoot"! I'm sorry I totally couldn't help myself! But really, it is funny...I made myself a skirt out of a tea towel!
Last week I happened by some festive tea towels at Target and, of course, I couldn't resist the cute owls so I bought them. As I unpacked my bags I reached for the towels and just before I hung the owls up to use...I thought, those are darn cute! And, promptly decided to make a skirt using the towel. Initially I thought I'd make Violet a skirt ( I may still have to because she is a little jealous of mine...) but then decided to keep it to make one for myself.
I used the same Mini Skirt pattern (08/2012 from Burdastyle) as I did for my Shades of Me outfit but used a larger seam allowance this time and replaced the front panel with my tea towel.
The rest of the panels are made from some super soft fine wale brown corduroy that I had in my stash.
I hemmed the brown panel pieces first and then aligned the tea towel up with the corduroy panels to sew afterward so that I could keep the original hem of the towel and keep the owls toward the bottom of the skirt. I skipped the facings and the invisible zipper this time around (for speed) and simply folded the waist band over and inserted a bit of elastic in the back panel.
Perhaps it's a bit strange...a tea towel skirt...
But I love it! It's comfy and fallish, and me. I do admit that it might be a bit strange if I find myself walking through the kitchen section at Target while wearing it, or into someone else's kitchen who is using their own owl towel to dry the dishes...but, eh...how could I resist wearing these owls...
Ps...these pictures are only so so because I was rushing off to a meeting at the school and asked my husband to snap them quickly as we were doing the whole "kid hand off" thing...but when I got to the meeting I was greeted with a compliment on my new skirt! Okay, it was from a close friend, but still...
Have a great day!
