My pal Laura just recently released her latest Titchy Threads pattern, the Rowan tee. You may remember seeing a couple of other versions here during Kids Clothes Week like this Otis the tractor inspired tee and these monster versions. So, yes, I already knew that I liked the pattern (all of her patterns really!). It's a great staple tee with... 144 different variation possibilities and sizes from 6 months - 12 years it will be a staple for a long time. There are so many ways that you can customize this tee, from pockets to hood to sleeve length to stripes to cuffs or hems, so many choices!
This time around, for the Rowan Tee Pattern tour, I chose the following options: hood, long sleeved, cuffed sleeve, cuffed hem, shoulder stripes and a kangaroo pocket...
And, some awesome Charley Harper Cardinal Knit! I first used this cardinal knit for a baby gown/hat last Spring and have since been holding onto the rest to make something special for one of my kiddos. Henry got it, it seemed only fair as the cardinal has long been his favorite bird, but I think Violet is pretty jealous.
This knit (nice and thick and sturdy, but soft) is a perfect match for the Rowan tee, especially with the hooded version, making it more of a sweatshirt almost.
Speaking of sweatshirts...I used some sweatshirt scraps leftover from these Fancy Pants leggings to make the kangaroo pocket...
I like the heathered texture to it and think it breaks up the cardinals nicely making the shirt cute but cool too...plus it's soft and snuggly on the inside!
I used sweatshirt scraps for the shoulder stripes too...
As well as the hood stripe...
I used a dark gray ribbing for the cuffs and a gray knit, with a pop of cardinals (just because) for the hood lining...
Seriously, with all of these options, stripes and ribbing and pockets (oh my!) there are so many ways to make this tee all your own! Plus, Laura, does a great job in the pattern telling you exactly what pages you need to print out for the options that you've chosen. That doesn't mean that you'll remember the first time, ahem. The pattern is layered as well which means you only need to print out the size(s) you wish to make. I will admit that the extras add some time to the cutting out process, of course, as well as the small steps needed to sew them in, but, as with all of the Titchy Threads patterns the directions are so detailed and easy to follow and all of those little notches match up perfectly giving you a fantastic finished project!
See that little poof of white up there to the right of Henry's face...yup, it was so cold (28deg without the windchill!) but this guy was totally cool when it was time to take his coat off. I thought it would be fun to get pictures of him at the nature center bird watching in his bird shirt...
But then again, that was before the temperatures plummeted to dead of the winter temps around here! Anyway he was a good sport about it all and it was only about five minutes, tops!
Plus, he really just loved his new shirt so much...oh and a brand new pair of orange stretch denim hosh pants because, well just because...
And afterward we went inside to warm up and explore...he was totally in his element.
And looking mighty cute!
I really do love this pattern and can see many more Rowan tees to come! Want to see more fantastic versions of this shirt to sway you even more? Stop by the rest of the Rowan tee pattern tour!
*Note, I was given this pattern in return for blogging about it, but all opinions are my own.
