This past September we headed back to the Honey Festival to admire the bees, taste sweet honey and meet up with the Moxies. We also bought a great big block of heavenly smelling beeswax.
I had honestly forgotten about this hunk of beeswax until I was doing a little tidying up (after the "fabric explosion" from the clutches) and I was thrilled to have found it just in time for Christmas!
My plan all along had been to use it to make beeswax ornaments...
These were simple to make and so, so satisfying at the same time!
To make: Begin by melting beeswax in a large heavy bottomed pot over low heat. I used candy molds for my ornament molds and sprayed them lightly with cooking spray first, this helps the ornaments to pop out more easily. Add melted wax to your molds filling to about half full. Let wax sit for a bit and allow it to firm up a little. Next, make a loop with your hanging string (I used butcher's twine and embroidery floss) and place it on top of the firm wax. Gently pour more wax into your molds to fill them completely. Let wax cool completely, I put my molds in the freezer to speed up the process. Carefully pop out your ornaments and you are done!
Sweet smelling and looking ornaments, perfect for gifting by themselves...
Or to use to top off a gift. Either way, they are sweet and simple, and smell like honey!
Have a great day!
