I have so many things to put into today's post that I'm not even quite sure where to start...But, seeing that it is Selfish Sewing Week I guess I'll start there!
I've got a new favorite dress!
Like, I really really want to wear this dress all the time! It's the Skippy dress from Make it Perfect and it's made out super soft and comfy waffle knit that I purchased months ago at $3/yd! (The fabric was meant to be for a shirt for my husband, oops! He forgives me.) So, it's my new favorite dress, and it was cheap!
I sewed up a size small (I've never ever cut out a size small in a pattern before, yay!) but then, because of the stretchiness of the fabric maybe, had to bring the sides in a little bit more. Perhaps, next time (there will for sure be a next time, I've already got some more fabric purchased!) I'll make the extra small because even after taking in the sides it seems a tad too big. None the less, I've been pretty much living in this dress since I made it.
The details are part of what makes it so nice.
From the kangaroo pocket to the perfect neckline... plus I love the 3/4 length sleeve. All of it combined makes the dress both comfortable and easy to wear. I used some leftover knit from these pants for the accents, it 's just enough accent without being too much.
Oh, and the waist band gives the dress such a nice shape, no frumpy bagginess here ...
The dress came together so nicely, and it is so wearable! I'm just so pleased with it. There are lots of reasons to love sewing. And, lots of fancy things to sew. But, when you sew up something that you know you will wear over and over again because it's so easy to do so....that's when knowing how to sew is really really awesome!
Part of the reason that I'm in love with this dress is because it's casual but tossing it on feels like I'm automatically well put together. I'm a no muss no fuss kinda gal most of the time, minimal makeup, minimal accessories, minimal hair brushing...so this fits in just perfectly...
All this brings me to the next exciting part of this post...my new watch!
A non fussy but super fantastic watch that makes me feel immediately stylish and put together when I put it on. Aside from the watch that I wear while running, I haven't worn a watch on a daily basis for such a long time, mostly because I haven't found one that quite suits me... And then along came this wood watch from JORD watches and I've been wearing it everyday and getting loads of compliments!
I have the Fieldcrest black watch. It is just big enough to make a statement, but not too big that it looks like I'm wearing a man's watch. Not to say that a man couldn't wear this watch...I did, in fact, choose this particular watch thinking that my husband and I could share it which he would have loved...but, on second thought he's pretty fantastic at breaking watches, so I'm keeping this one all to myself! I love the way this wood watch looks with so many different things from casual to dressy. And, I love how easy and comfortable it is to wear. It's really just the watch I've been looking for as it turns out.
