After seeing this Sugar Skull Kitty post from Call Ajaire I simply couldn't get the idea of making these for Violet and Henry out of my head. And so, late into the night I sat cutting away at the template making a freezer paper stencil for the kids to wear to school the day before Halloween (you know before all the costume wearing)... It took longer that I had anticipated to cut all of the tiny little circles out and my fingers were oh so tired by the end, but it was worth it, because they turned out perfectly!
I always worry with a freezer paper stencil how it will look once you remove the paper, and this one with all of it's detail took some brain power to figure out the whole "negative space" stuff...but in the wee hours of the night when the sugar skulls were revealed it was a success!
It looks especially great on the black top, I think...
Hooray for last minute projects that turn out so well, especially when you've stayed up extra late to start/finish them!
And, hooray for the goofballs who enjoy them!
