This year, something unusual occurred, I actually had Christmas ensembles sewn up for both kids weeks before Christmas! Of course, it's the middle of January by the time I'm getting around to blogging about them, but let's just let that one slide shall we...
Initially, for Violet, I had intended on making her a Roma dress, but she really just wasn't interested...maybe though she'll consider it for an Easter dress.
Anywho, I went with her request of a new Lillian Pintuck dress from Mouse House creations. She has been wearing her Tokyo train ride Lillian a ton recently, proclaiming it her favorite dress! So, seeing that I actually like to see clothes that I make worn...I gave her what she wanted!
And, she couldn't be happier! The plaid is some shirting that I have (a ton of!) in my stash that was passed on to me several years ago. As it turns out the lighter weight of the shirting was perfect for the mild Christmas temperatures we had! I used gold bias tape for the neckline and keyhole tie, plus added three little gold bows for a little extra holiday "bling"...
I was a little worried that she would be turned off by both the gold and bows...but it turns out that she really loved them! It's such a simple and sweet dress. I think that's why she likes it...not too fancy, just enough. I think she might get that from her mama, always a bit of tomboy in us...
For Henry...well, this kid always likes to be "fancy", and I rather like him that way...
I used this jacket pattern from C'est Dimanche and tested my memory and French skills from high school and college. It was touch and go there for a bit. News flash, I don't really remember much! But, eventually I mostly just followed the sketches in the pattern and it went smoothly. The outside is Essex linen, with a touch of gold bias tape for the trim as well. Plus, some fun knot buttons. I was heavily inspired by Henry's love of the nutcracker as you might have guessed!
He got a matching flannel and linen double bow tie, as well as a super fast pair of black Hosh pants...
I swear, it becomes harder and harder to get "normal" pictures of these two together...but, then again...this is who they are!
The lining of Henry's jacket is plaid flannel from Joann and after sewing the jacket up it occurred to me that there was no reason the jacket couldn't be flipped inside out and worn as a reversible jacket!
And so he has and it gives it a completely different feel and look...
Much more of a "cool guy"...
I may not always get to finish my Christmas sewing list, but when I am able to get something made it makes be oh so happy, especially when I get to see such beautiful Christmas Joy on their faces with their handmades on...
Have a lovely day!
