Last month Gabriela of Chalk and Notch asked me if I'd like to join her Top Knot Blog Tour. I had already been swooning over the tester pictures and sneak peaks that had been popping up so I, of course, said "yes"! I love the look of this pattern, a little bit retro/vintage...not to mention that there are 3 views, a romper, dress and a tunic and all views have a long sleeve option!
There are so many options for this pattern! And, so many ways to mix and match!
The pattern construction also allows you to have a bit of fun mixing fabrics and adding trims, two things that I love to do!
As I've grown accustomed to of late...Violet and I had a "meeting" to discuss what fabric and pattern style she'd like. This usually always takes so much longer than it would if I were the only one making the decisions, but in the end, it usually also means that she is going to wear the heck out of the dress, shirt, shorts, romper...
For the Top Knot she chose the short sleeved, knee length dress option...and some amazing nani IRO and Lecien’s L’s Modern stripes (salmon stripe no longer in stock) double gauze from Imagine Gnats. This girl has some pretty great taste!
As I mentioned, the construction of this pattern is just perfect for a little print mixing with the back shoulders coming over toward the front of the dress, and these salmon stripes mix perfectly with the blue polka dots. Not to mention, I'm a sucker for spots where you can sneak in a little mini pompom trim!
Gabriela did an amazing job on this pattern. The instructions and diagrams are so well done. The pattern itself is a "no trim" pattern. This was my first time putting together a "no trim" pattern and let me tell you...I am a fan! I love all the the little details, like the three little pleats on the shoulders and the sleeve cuffs as well.
The skirt of the dress is perfect for lightweight fabrics like double gauze and the like...it swings with ease in the summer breeze...
And, of course, the all important...twirl factor...
Violet truly couldn't have been happier with the way the dress turned out, thanking me over and over again!
It's such a sweet dress. The design works well for younger girls, but also equally as well for older girls (the pattern runs from 18/24 months -12 years). Perfect for dress up and "seriousness"...
But it's also great for leaping and skipping and shenanigans!
Of course, it's no accident that the colors Violet picked are vaguely "patriotic" which means that it's also perfect for the Fourth of July and parade and fireworks viewing!
I have a feeling Violet might be expecting a romper version soon as well! But for now, this sweet little "candy cane striped" dress has me thinking..."Where did my little girl go?!"
Thank you so much Gabriela for asking me to be a part of the Top Knot blog tour! Gabriela is offering up a coupon code this week...if you use tkt20 you receive 20% off entire order (ending Friday, July 1st)...so head on over and get your Top Knot pattern!
