Well, goodness, it's been nearly an entire month since my last post! No surprise really though...such is the way of September. It's the month of settling in to new routines, new classes, teachers, soccer games and after school activities. Such a busy month and while I have been sneaking in a good deal of sewing this past month, I haven't been quite as good at sneaking in picture taking and blogging. But, thanks to my friend Annika, I've got a fantastic reason to get moving on the sewing, picture taking and blogging!
Annika, of Näh Connection, sews beautiful, playful and cheery things for both herself and her children, but she doesn't stop there. She's already shown her talents in translation in her German shop, with many English sewing patterns translated into German...but now, she's switching it up and translating German patterns into English in her new English pattern shop!
I recently had the chance to give one of the patterns, the Bethioua kids, a try and I've got to say...I really love this raglan pattern!
I know I've stated multiple times before about loving raglans. I just love how well they lend themselves to pattern, print and color mixing...
But this pattern...well, it's got something that makes it a little extra special...
This pattern comes together a bit differently that your typical raglan in that the arms/shoulders meet in the center back, which gives a sweet curved seam in the back and a fun detail addition if you use stripes! Of courses, I couldn't pass up the chance for the stripe detail so I searched and searched through my stash to come up with some fun stripe matches.
For Henry, I found a thrifted tee that I'd been wanting to upcycle for him for some time now and a neutral stripe in my stash. I find raglans to be perfect for tee upcycles as you actually need less shirt front/back material than a typical shirt so you need less of an old shirt to make a new one.
He couldn't be happier with this shirt! And all of those little animals, especially the penguins on the back...are just the cutest!
He also happens to be wearing a new pair of double knit Wild and Free lounge pants from Coffee and Thread that I had to whip up after a meltdown the other day that he didn't have any pants to wear (which wasn't exactly true, but...)
Not to be left out, especially since she seems to grow out of tees like nobody' business, Violet got a Bethioua kids raglan too!
For her, I made the tee using the rounded hem option as opposed to the straight hem I used for Henry's (there is also a banded hem option...) which gives yet another sweet little detail, plus will work perfectly with leggings...
Again I used some fabric from my stash matching up the last bit of this floral I have (Violet has been sad about outgrowing this shirt for quite some time now, so she's excited to see a new one!) with some neon pink teeny tiny stripe...
I admit it's a bit of a crazy match up...but I like it, and it's "crazy" works for Violet as she is no longer quite a pink or floral girl so the mix of them, with a touch of neon, actually totally work for her!
Everyone seem pretty thrilled by their new raglans...
