I might be a little late to the "blue and white" game...not because I am not a fan, it's just that I tend toward the "other colors" more than either blue or white...But, thanks to Mie and Celina and their Sew Blue and White Instagram account I'm branching out...or perhaps more appropriately, pairing down.
Browsing through #sewblueandwhite photos on IG you can't help but be inspired!
The dress...another groove dress! I fell in love with my first groove so much that I really wanted a long sleeved one for the fall and cooler months. I made this dress out of a blue rayon/lycra slub knit (from Imagine Gnats). It swings fantastically and is oh some comfy...however, it's a tad on the see-through side...and I find that the sleeves stretch out from being pushed up etc. While I love it! I haven't yet decided if it's appropriate as a dress in this fabric or if it ought to simply be a sweet nightgown...
The bag...another make from Lotta Jansdotter's Everyday Style, an Elsa Everyday tote.
The amazing fabric is a thick, two sided, home dec fabric that I found at Joann. I saw it and simply could not resist it! I already have a couple pillows on my couch using this fabric...but it really shines in this bag! To add a bit of extra detail I color blocked it at the top with Essex linen. I re-used a pair of leather handles that I salvaged from an old store bought tote.
I sewed the small size of the Elsa, the perfect tote size as far as I'm concerned. It is a super simple tote style, no bells and whistles (read, no zippers, pockets, etc.) but sometimes that's all you need, especially since most of the time I simply carry my essentials in a small zipper pouch and easily switch those essentials between bags in their little pouch.
Sometimes, as it turns out, beauty really is in simplicity!
Thanks so much for inspiring Mie and Celina and Sew Blue and White...I'm loving my new blue and white makes!
ps...more necklaces from madre beads! They really are so simple and fun to wear!
