Hey there! I've got the cutest top to share today!
It's the Bess top (and dress) from Imagine Gnats.
I've been wanting to make one of these tops for ions...and this week I finally found some time to make one! Of course, choosing the right fabric took me a bit too...
I love the shoulder detail with the pleat and how the back comes over to the front at the shoulder. But, that little detail had me stumped for a bit. Do I mix and match my fabrics? Do I do one single fabric and allow the detail to be subtle? There are so many beautiful bess tops out there, some are mixed and some are not ( #besstop to see)...oh decisions, decisions...
In the end, I sort of met in between (so to speak) with blue and white checks.
The front is the back of an old dress shirt of my husband's. You might see that I kept the tiny little pleat at the neckline from the back pleat of the original dress shirt.
The back, blue and white squared as well, but the back is blue and white double gauze squares that I had in my stash...
I love how the back and front are similar, but then are so different as well. To me, they are perfectly paired along with the unique design of the bess top pattern. Not to mention that it all came together for a super cool and comfy summer top...in the middle of September! I can not believe how warm it's been these first days of fall, it's not quite inspiring me to make anything autumnal just yet!
Good thing I've just recently made my summer makes...I'm not too late after all!
Want to make your own Bess top?
Well you are in luck because Rachael just announced this week that, in order to spend more time focussing on the Imagine Gnats shop, she has decided to discontinue her own patterns with some steep discounts!
All imagine gnats printed patterns are currently 50% off, that’s $5 for kids patterns and $7.50 for women’s patterns. All printed patterns will also come with digital files, so you’ll get the best of both worlds! If you prefer just the PDF version to save on shipping those are marked down as well ($4 and $6).
You can see some of my other Imagine Gnats pattern makes below:
Roly-Poly: rainbow and flowers, hedgehogs
Juba Shorts: double cloth cotton, slub linen, with pockets, chambray
Tumble Tee: ruffled
Meridian: Mother/daughter
Now you've got some inspiration!

...A birdie told me it's Rachael's birthday today!
So head on over and give her and her patterns/shop a little love!
Happy Friday!
