Today I'm over at Imagine Gnats sharing my latest post for flannels week! The kids each got a Mulberry Tunic made is some super cozy and soft Robert Kaufman mammoth and shetland flannels. Honestly, when the fabric arrived I was instantly jealous and wanted to keep it for myself, or at least wrap myself up in it like a cocoon and maybe never come out! Well, obviously that wasn't quite reasonable...but lucky for me after their tunics were made I ended up with a bit of mammoth flannel left over, just enough to eek out a simple a-line skirt for myself!
Really it's not perfect, as I sewed it up super duper quickly at the last minute...I had only a limited amount of fabric to use and this skirt is cut on the bias so I really was dealing with some tricky fabric placement logistics...I used the Tedra pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's Everyday Style book but skipped the zipper and instead hoped for the best and simply made it using an elastic waistband.
And, while it's not perfect, I really love it!
It's really exactly what I wanted, a simple flannel plaid skirt (the closest I'll get to wrapping myself in a cocoon of flannel...hahaha!) to keep me warm, but to also look cute!
I do, however, wish that I had had some lining fabric around to line it so that I didn't have to wear a slip...oh well, like I said, this one of those last minute, super fast, late night sews...but sometimes those are really the best kind aren't they?
Last week the kids had off of school for a couple of days due to teacher training days...We thought we'd take advantage of the bonus time off and head out on an adventure...to Storm King Art Center.
It was freezing! It was magical! It was awe inspiring!
Each of us, despite the temperatures were moved to run...
And take in the beauty of sculpture, nature and the sunshine that warmed us...
It was one of those days, where you didn't know what exactly to expect...but ended up being a day to always remember!
Those too, are often the best kind of days!
