I had big plans, BIG PLANS, I tell ya! This was the year I was actually going to make myself a Christmas dress! I ordered this amazing plaid tencel shirting (which you saw yesterday in Violet's Eleena dress...) washed it and even started on my very own dress before starting on the kid's ensembles! I cut and sewed the body of the dress, and before sewing on the sleeves and the sides tossed it on to see how it looked...blah!
The plan had been...
to sew a Farrow dress because I've wanted another since last year's corduroy version...
to cut it on the bias similarly to my plaid Hadley...
There were a couple of other small changes I planned to make as well, but when I tossed on the partially completed dress, despite all my hard work to get the plaids to match, it just wasn't working. The large black plaid stripes of this fabric, while they were matched in one direction, they were not at all in the other direction. I tried to pretend like I could ignore it, but it was impossible!
So I scrapped it, used the already cut pieces for pocket linings and pleats for the kids and just let it go...I wore Violet's red skirt (which I love!) for Christmas Eve instead...
Then, sometime in between Christmas traveling and New Years, I managed to find a little bit of time, pushed aside the mess and ducked in to use what I had left to make myself a new Hadley top instead!
You know, I've been making a lot of dresses lately...so I'm actually pretty ok with the fact that my original plan didn't work out in the end...
Because I love this hadley!
The tencel shirting is flowy and soft and cozy and the green plaid makes me feel festive, but not overtly so...
Which means just because I didn't make it until after Christmas, I'll still wear it outside of the holidays...which, come to think of it, despite my previous intentions, I likely wouldn't have worn my planned dress outside of the holidays...
So, yay! I count that as a win!
Also, a win...this funny photo shoot outtake!
Because...sometimes taking pictures of yourself in your bedroom with a tripod and remote feels a lot like this! Ha!
Happy Friday!
