If you follow me on Instagram you've likely already seen these leggings and this top...
The leggings are the Avery leggings, the new pattern from Helen's Closet and the top is a modified Ballard top from Straight Stitch Designs.
First, let me talk about these leggings!
I've never really thought much about making myself leggings. It's always seemed like too much trouble, plus I'm not really much of a legging kinds of gal except for running and activewear, not so much for loungewear/daily wear.
But, sometimes things come together in magical ways...like I'm just beginning to take yoga classes in addition to my running, I'd purchased some amazing double brushed poly from Imagine Gnats and this new pattern came out all within about a week or so of each other.
It seemed kissmet!
What I love about this pattern...it doesn't use a lot of fabric. There is only one leg seam (the inseam) so it feels like there will be less of a chance for seam busting! The waist band elastic technique and the waistband options, I love the high waistband!
The crotch gusset is simple to sew and works perfectly. The fit is amazing! The instruction for sewing is very clear and easy to follow. And, all in all they are a pretty speedy sew!
To ensure my seems wouldn't burst while sewing I used a short and narrow zig zag stitch, to be extra safe I actually sewed two lines of zig zag stitches and used my serger too! Seriously, who wants seems to bust while doing this in a yoga class?!
The top, as I mentioned is a modified Ballard top. I modified it basically so that I could use the tiniest bit of a fabric scrap to make it. I didn't add the bottom band and had to make it a short sleeved top due to my lack of fabric. I also didn't hem it, because I was lazy and left the back drape open... I really like it as a yoga warm up/cool down top...
Now that I've talked about the patterns...let's talk about the fabric!
Both pieces are made using double brushed poly, the top is navy and the bottoms are these eggplant stars. Double brushed poly...is amazing! That double brushed underside is so soft and comfy!
And stars on my legs! Seriously these make me so happy and make me feel like a super hero!
That being said...I should note, because you likely already noticed...they might be a little too see through for some people's comfort to wear without a tunic or to wear to a yoga class...
I, myself, go to a small yoga class that has only woman. My yoga instructor didn't think they were too see through. And, I'm totally ok with them. But, I thought I should mention it, for reference!
Also...it's hard to take pictures of yourself doing handstands with the self-timer option...
Hooray for kissmet sewing projects!
Also, check out this awesome Avery hack from Jess!
And, head on over to Imagine Gnats to see where the navy scrap of double poly came from!
Have a great day!
