I fell in love with the Issie Top from Sewpony the moment I saw it!
It was the ruffles, I think...it seems that perhaps I have a thing for ruffles?
And then, I stumbled across this perfectly perfect for my Violet, Violet fabric from Jumping June textiles and I had to buy it, and so the two, the pattern and the fabric, seemed the perfect match!
This was one of those makes that I couldn't wait to gift!
It was also one of those makes that I wished (not so) secretly was for me!
The pattern goes up to size 12 (yay!) ...but, really I would love to twist Suz's arm and have an adult version!
And, it has a variety of different options, with shoulder ruffles, or a front ruffle or a bow...waist band or no waist band, cuffs, no cuffs...and long sleeved, 3/4, or short...oh so many options!
For this first version I used the cuffs and waist band made with this super stretchy and thick and oh so pretty ribbing from Jumping June.
I really love a thick cuff and waistband on shirts. It's such a fun detail addition, while also being functional. And this ribbing is perfect for this shirt, plus it's fun that it's not just plain jane (not that there's anything wrong with plain jane)...
The ruffled sleeve, as I mentioned is what I really fell in love with though.
The size of the ruffle is just right, not too big and not too small...and I love the ability to add a little extra color contrast detail (ruffle fabric, periwinkle jersey from Maker Mountain fabrics)
Violet might not be into girly, girl things much (she never really has) and she might not be into florals as much nowadays (though I think she and I might be making that part up a little, ha ha!) but she loves this shirt!
Now, to make all of the versions before she grows out of this pattern! Seriously, she just had her checkup yesterday and we found out that she grew seven inches this past year! Good heavens!
