The moment Violet saw my purple french terry Lodo dress...she was jealous!
I mean, I can't blame her, that french terry is so stretchy and and comfortable and really the perfect weight! So, I asked if she wanted me to make her something with the remaining fabric that I had. She did. But not just anything something...
Her birthday dress!
Of course, I didn't really have enough leftover for a dress, so I quickly ordered more... (sadly it is now out of stock...which is why I quickly ordered it thinking that it would likely sell out!)
The fabric, as it turned out, was the easy part. The harder part was...what to make? After much chatting and discussion, I managed to figure out her vision...and then showed her a few different patterns. We ended on the Cocoon dress from Groovy Baby and Mama.
When Violet returned home from school the day before her birthday to see her "birthday dress" hanging in her room, she couldn't wait to try it on!
And then exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, it's the perfect 10 year old dress!"
And, I think she's right! It is the perfect 10 year old dress!
I love the shape, which is perfect (and very similar to my Lodo dress!) with this french terry. And that high low hem, is such a nice detail!
Initially, I know she was a bit "worried" about the sleeve ruffles...
She always thinks she's not a ruffle girl...but, then she always loves them!
Go figure!
I feel like I'm a million years behind everyone else with this pattern! I'm not sure why I'm just sewing it up for the first time, but I'm sure there will be more!
I think perhaps it's just a style thing. I've really noticed Violet's style shifting. Or maybe it's just that she's noticing things more? I know I've said this before, but I'm continually surprised that I'm still getting away with making clothes for her! But, then again, I'm also continually changing the types of clothes I'm making for her!
Man, I know we are about to embark on some whirlwind kid/parenting stuff that's going to last for years...! But, I said it on instagram on her birthday, this girl is truly one of the sweetest and most kind people I know...
I'm excited to see this smile continue to grow!
She even still loves me enough to let us dress like twins! Well, at least for a couple of hours!
